Introducing our Speakers

Paul PhillipsPaul Phillips
Isle of Man TT

Paul Phillips is responsible for the commercial development of the Isle of Man TT and Classic TT events on behalf of the Isle of Man Government, Department of Economic Development.

With the demise of other legendary events and circuits, the TT Races stand as the last of the great motor-sporting tests in the world today.

Remaining largely untouched since 1911, the 37 3/4 miles of public roads have played host to some of the greatest motorcycle races and riders of all time.

From Mike Hailwood's epic duels with Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read, to the record-breaking rides by Geoff Duke, Mick Grant and Joey Dunlop, the TT simply reverberates with special memories.

Darach McQuaidDarach McQuaid

Darach is a founding partner of Shadetree Sports and a former international cyclist. When Darach's racing career finished in the mid 1990's, he set up a publishing company and amongst other publications, the company published the first ever official guide to the Tour de France in French, German and English language editions.

Moving over to events, sponsorship and television rights in the 2000's, Darach and his partner David Kalman have successfully staged events such as Tour of Ireland (2007-2009) and recently organized the winning bid for Richmond, Virginia to host the 2015 UCI World Road Race Championships. This will be a US$20m event. More recently, Shadetree Sports created the concept of starting the Giro d'Italia in Northern Ireland, managed the bid and since the successful conclusion of the bid in November 2012, has managed the preparations for the event which will take place in May of this year.

The Giro is viewed around the world by a potential audience of 775 million people. Over 200 of the top professional cyclists from across the globe will be in Northern Ireland to take part and there will be a supporting programme of events and activities.

Darach McQuaidMarc Hogan

Marc's career started out in corporate sales and communication training. A flippant bet (of just £1) that he couldn't become a stand up comedian in a year led Marc to discover a wealth of skills ending in a successful show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In an inspiring, and of course amusing, presentation Marc explains how he's developed his 'sevenkeys' that helped him achieve his comedy goal but which can be applied to almost any aim; business or personal. From identifying opportunities to taking risks and preparation, Marc's seven lessons can be applied to leadership, change management, sales, team building and almost any other business concern. His background in training and the corporate world means Marc is ideally suited to understanding the needs of a company or group and adapting his work accordingly.

Food at events

Food producersEvents can create an authentic Northern Ireland experience and local food is an integral part of the visitor experience, building one of the strongest memory triggers. In Northern Ireland, good food is in our nature, Michele Shirlow from Food NI will highlight the importance of choosing local produce and suppliers to deliver quality food experiences at events. Hear from a local event organiser how they used local food to create a customer centric event and enhanced the overall visitor experience at their event. You will also have an opportunity to sample some local food delights and network with key suppliers that you could use at your event.
